The story in this film has nothing to do with the first film.
Rodriguez’s decision to present a different story in We Can Be Heroes has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that this film can certainly attract viewers who have never watched The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D, especially for the younger generation who were born during the 2000s. Moreover, the story in this film targets the segment of children who are certainly just born after 2005.
The drawback is, We Can Be Heroes will certainly be a disappointment for old fans who have hopes of reminiscing through this latest film. What’s more, We Can Be Heroes was promoted as a sequel to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D before the film was released. Sharkboy and Lavagirl frills are certainly the main attraction for adult fans who are looking for We Can Be Heroes.

If you put your hopes aside to see more Sharkboy and Lavagirl in action, the We Can Be Heroes story is actually quite entertaining. Plus, you can watch this film with your family during the year-end holidays at this time. Its light story with its comedic spices that is just right makes this film quite unforgivable for its old fans. Movie Review
The presence of Pedro Pascal who plays Marcus Moreno also stole the attention in We Can Be Heroes. Actually, Pascal didn’t do much action in this film either. But considering that his name is on the rise through The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), Pascal’s existence is of course the main attraction for We Can Be Heroes. Moreover, Pascal returns to playing the role of a father who loves his son so much, such as his role in Wonder Woman 1984.
As if he doesn’t want to lose his trademark, Rodriguez is back with low-budget cartoon-style CGI in We Can Be Heroes. However, when compared to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D, the quality of CGI in this latest film has significantly improved and the low budget impression is somewhat reduced.
For those of you fans of the first film, it’s better to get rid of the expectation that We Can Be Heroes will present a story related to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D. Apart from that, this film is arguably a breath of fresh air in the world of superhero films which are currently still dominated by DC and Marvel. Top Movie
